MCIU's 24-25 Educator's Book Club

Our Educator’s Book Club is a hybrid way to build a professional learning community that is dedicated to filling classrooms with books to inspire curiosity.

Book List Coming Soon!

The purpose of this group is to:

    • Develop a community of readers and build relationships across the region
    • Increase exposure to newer, diverse and inclusive books
    • Evaluate and provide feedback on texts for elementary and middle school levels
    • Curate a list of resources for district/school/classroom curriculum and instruction

The requirements of this group are:

    • Select the dates and books that match your interest
    • Read the book ahead of the live zoom
    • Engage in meaningful conversation and collaboration on the live zoom
    • Share resources with colleagues

The book list was created in partnership with MCIU, local school librarians and teachers. Participants are responsible for acquiring the required books on their own.

The expectation is that participants will come to the meet-ups ready to discuss the texts they read prior and provide feedback using a protocol. In the virtual meet-up, participants will rotate through breakout sessions with colleagues. A protocol will be used to support the conversation and drive feedback on each text.

The group is open to all school educators. The book club will consist of 1 professional text and 2 book choices. We will study instructional routines like read aloud, guided inquiry, independent reading amongst others to share ways to build bridges between books and content (sci, ss, ela, math). We are inspired by the principles and tenets of the Book Love Foundation and Disrupt Texts.

This book club is great for differentiated supervision projects, research and development of a PBL unit or cross teaming curriculum unit. It’s also a great opportunity for those looking to extend their learning from Penny Kittle and Jennifer Serravallo focused workshops.

Synchronous, virtual meetings will take place from 4:00pm-5:30pm on:

Middle School:

    • December 15th
    • January 16th
