Behavior

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a problem-solving and design framework that supports the behavioral and social-emotional needs of all learners. It can be leveraged by teachers, administrators, and teams to establish clear expectations, create supportive environments, and proactively teach and reinforce positive behavior. PBIS enhances many of our systems’ initiatives and promotes a culture of safety, belonging, and student success. The Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (MCIU) plays a pivotal role in supporting Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) across schools in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Since the 2014–15 academic year, MCIU has been instrumental in training, coaching, and providing technical assistance to over 47 schools within the county. This effort is part of the Pennsylvania Positive Behavior Support (PaPBS) Network, aiming to foster positive school climates and enhance student outcomes through the PBIS framework.

PBIS is integrated within the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework. This approach emphasizes data-driven decision-making, shared leadership, and proactive strategies to support students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development.  MCIU offers ongoing support to schools aiming to implement or enhance PBIS practices. This includes professional development, coaching, and technical assistance, all provided at no additional cost to member school districts.
