Explore how digital design can transform access, belonging, and opportunity across your school community. This engaging professional learning experience invites all school-based employees to discover how Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) can support more inclusive digital spaces for students, families, and staff.

Participants will learn how accessibility goes beyond compliance, becoming a proactive design mindset that strengthens communication, learning, and engagement for everyone. Through practical exploration, participants will examine a digital resource, tool, or system within their own school context, identify barriers, and develop actionable plans to improve access and inclusion.

This 7-module hybrid course (synchronous and asynchronous) explores and applies leadership concepts for developing sustainable digital accessibility systems at the school and district level. The course is designed for district and school-level administrators leading cross functional teams responsible for organizational systems, instructional access, and equitable participation within digital learning environments.

The course prepares leaders to develop organizational systems aligned to ADA Title II and WCAG 2.1 Level AA requirements through strategic planning, systems analysis, accessibility governance, continuous improvement processes, and implementation planning. Participants engage in sustained job-embedded leadership activities focused on improving equitable access to digital instructional materials, communication systems, digital tools, websites, and public-facing resources.

Participants will be required to:

• • • Review assigned accessibility implementation resources, including ADA Title II guidance, WCAG 2.1 Level AA resources, implementation planning tools, and research related to systems leadership, organizational change, and equitable access.
    • Complete module reflections, implementation activities, collaborative discussions, and peer feedback activities.
    • Conduct job-embedded leadership activities including accessibility systems scans, accessibility audits, root cause analysis, implementation planning, governance development, and organizational framework design.
    • Develop a proposal for a cross-functional Digital Accessibility Workgroup to support organizational accessibility implementation and accountability.
    • Create a Digital Accessibility Framework and Strategic Accessibility Implementation Plan aligned to organizational priorities and equitable instructional access.
    • Develop a final Digital Accessibility Roadmap as a culminating implementation project designed to support sustainable organizational accessibility systems and measurable improvements in equitable digital access and participation.

Join a growing network of colleagues committed to creating accessible, inclusive digital experiences for all users. The MCIU Digital Accessibility Network meets monthly to share knowledge, build relationships, and collectively strengthen accessibility practices aligned with the WCAG 2.1 AA and Title II requirements.

Each session brings together role-alike peers for collaborative discussions, hands-on problem-solving, and peer support. Members exchange tools, templates, and real-world examples, learn from one another’s experiences, and build connections that last beyond a single meeting. Being a project, a question, or simply your interest and leave with practical insights and a professional network that supports your accessibility journey all year long.
