The end-of-year whirlwind is emotionally taxing for both teachers and students. Co-regulation—adults and students managing stress together—is vital for maintaining a focused, safe learning environment. Here is how to finish the year strong by regulating together.
Reflect with “Rose, Bud, Thorn”
Transitions are easier when we acknowledge our feelings. The Rose, Bud, Thorn activity is a mindful ritual that helps everyone identify positive moments (Roses), areas needing support (Thorns), and things to look forward to (Buds).
Take a “Mindful Moment” Together
When the classroom feels chaotic, stop and practice a grounding technique as a group. Taking a moment to notice and name feelings is an excellent way for you to “practice what you teach”
Cultivate a Culture of Gratitude
Morale often dips when stress is high. Fostering a culture of positive recognition can strengthen community bonds.
