This 7-module hybrid course (synchronous and asynchronous) is designed to explore, define, and apply leadership concepts for planning for Multi-Tiered Systems of Support at the system (school or district) level. It is designed for principals or other school or district level administrators that are building or currently implementing Multi-Tiered Systems of Support. This as an ongoing course that extends throughout the academic year.
Participants in this course will:

- Read assigned chapters in In support of students: A leader’s guide to equitable MTSS (Novak & Rodriguez, 2023) text will be provided to all participants.
- Attend virtual meetings for each module. There will be two options for each module.
- Complete module reflections with course colleague feedback.
- Complete job-embedded activities (needs assessments, root cause analysis, action planning) with district or school-based leadership teams.
- Develop an MTSS action plan as a summary project to implement or improve implementation of MTSS and clear measures of student outcome/growth.

- Module 1: Leadership that produces long term change is a multi-year process of building the technical and adaptive leadership skills of those leading the change process.
- Module 2: Pennsylvania’s model for MTSS has a broad scope unifying academic and behavior supports in a continuum of supports that grow the capacity of all educators, students, and families to improve student outcomes.
- Module 3: A comprehensive process for analyzing current student outcomes and needs of a school system is paramount to setting a vision for MTSS.
- Module 4: Evidence-based decision making processes intersect multiple forms of data to determine priorities for the system.
- Module 5: Root cause analysis processes provide systems with information to define what is happening and identify the most impactful alterable factors to adjust or change student outcomes.
- Module 6: Logic models provide a structured process to elaborate upon a root cause analysis and organize resources and efforts to improve problems of practice and student outcomes.
- Module 7: MTSS is a system level process of organizing a set of evidence based strategies, focused on inclusion, with intentional feedback loops to improve student outcomes.
