The Universal Design for Learning Professional Learning Community (UDL PLC) has grown and transformed into UDL: CoLab, a space designed to better meet the needs of our educators and school teams.

As with all good instruction, we’ve reflected, listened, and adjusted. This transformation ensures that learning opportunities are relevant, flexible, and supportive for every team.

What’s New in UDL: CoLab?

• • • Deeper Learning for Experienced Teams

      Some school teams in Montgomery County have been early adopters of UDL. Now, they need the space to set self-identified goals and work collaboratively with colleagues at the classroom, building, or district level. CoLab supports teams in applying the UDL mindset to real-world problem-solving.

    • No More Webinars

      We heard you: after-school webinars often felt like barriers rather than opportunities. This year, learning will be embedded into in-person sessions and school/district site visits, where conversations can continue in meaningful and practical ways.

    • Multi-Year Growth Opportunities

      CoLab is not a “one and done” experience. School and district teams can participate across multiple years, working through different barriers and building long-term solutions. With guidance from an MCIU project consultant, teams strengthen their capacity to lead systemic change across numerous areas.

Why the Change?

Because learning communities should mirror the best of UDL itself—responsive, flexible, and built on the strengths of the learners. UDL: CoLab creates space for educators to collaborate, customize their learning, and cultivate meaningful change.
